Setting
A closed municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill in California’s Central Valley (Placer County / Sacramento metro) remains under long-term post-closure monitoring governed by CCR Title 27 and a Regional Water Quality Control Board Waste Discharge Requirements / Monitoring & Reporting Program order. The site requires recurring semiannual demonstration that groundwater, surface water, and landfill gas remain within regulatory limits across a multi-well compliance network and adjacent surface-water and perimeter gas-monitoring points.
My role
I serve as author and data-evaluation lead for the semiannual water-quality monitoring report — translating field events and laboratory results into a regulator-ready compliance narrative. I coordinate inputs from field sampling, laboratory chemistry, and figures/tables, and prepare the draft for project manager and client review prior to PE certification and agency submittal.
Methods & approach
Work spans a defined seasonal field event (groundwater, surface water, and landfill-gas monitoring with instruments such as the Landtec GEM 5000 and a MiniRAE 3000 PID), followed by structured data evaluation — trend review against multi-year historical context, background-versus-compliance comparison, and QA/QC validation. I adapt a controlled cyclic report template and apply a disciplined “diff every value against its source” review with color-coded change tracking to catch stale carryover text — a common quality risk in recurring regulatory reporting.
Outcome
A defensible, internally consistent semiannual compliance report suitable for client review and agency submittal, with corrective-action effectiveness assessed against historical trends.
