Mohammad Sharif
Environmental Engineer, EIT · Sacramento, California
Summary
Civil and environmental engineer (EIT) at Jacobs in Sacramento, on remediation, landfill and Superfund projects across California: from pre-design investigation and field leadership to construction quality assurance and regulatory reporting. I also build the software my field teams use.
Experience
Staff Engineer II
2022 — 2025APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure · Concord
Full-time CQA on landfill liners, final covers and gas systems (Colton, Woodville); landfill gas compliance reporting; SWPPPs, monitoring programs and project management.
Environmental Engineer
2025 — PresentJacobs · Sacramento
Superfund remediation, MGP cleanup and landfill compliance for EPA, the Navy, the Air Force, PG&E and municipal clients; leading Phase 1 construction at Sulphur Bank.
Selected projects
Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine
May 2025 — PresentConstruction lead, Phase 1 remediation; co-lead, pre-design field campaigns · Clearlake Oaks, CA
A former mercury mine on the shore of Clear Lake, now a federal Superfund cleanup. I helped lead the 2025 pre-design test-pit, soil-boring and boulder XRF campaigns that fed the remedial design, and now lead the construction effort for Phase 1, the cleanup of residential yards.
City of Roseville — Closed Landfill Compliance Monitoring
Jan 2025 — PresentDeputy project manager (DPM) · Roseville, CA
Deputy project manager for Title 27 compliance at the City of Roseville’s closed, unlined landfill: coordinating the semiannual groundwater sampling, running the landfill gas monitoring, and helping write the reports the Regional Water Board relies on.
PG&E Bakersfield MGP
Sep 2023 — PresentField engineer; characterization, specifications & monitoring software · Bakersfield, CA
The cleanup of an 1880s gas plant site in downtown Bakersfield under DTSC oversight. I worked it end to end: characterization, the scope of work and specifications, field engineer through construction, and the software that turns perimeter air, noise and vibration monitoring into live data and daily reports.
Woodville Landfill — Southern Phase Cell Expansion
2024 — 2025Design team & CQA support · Tulare County, CA
Design, and construction quality assurance on parts of the build, for a new lined disposal cell at Tulare County’s Woodville Landfill: capacity for a county that is consolidating its landfills.
Travis AFB — SERDP PFAS Study
Jun 2025 — Jun 2025Field study & groundwater sampling support · Travis AFB, Fairfield, CA
Field work for a SERDP-funded PFAS study with a sharp question: can the tubing used to sample a monitoring well add PFAS to the sample? Existing and new tubing were tested side by side across about half a dozen wells.
Colton Sanitary Landfill — Final Cover & LFG System
Oct 2022 — Jul 2024Third-party CQA — landfill gas system; author of the final CQA completion report · Colton, CA
Third-party construction quality assurance on the new landfill gas collection system built with the final closure of an 88-acre landfill in Colton: extraction wells drilled into the waste, and new headers and laterals.
Software I’ve built
- Soil Sampling Planning Tool. An interactive map for planning soil sampling at a mercury-mine Superfund site — combining current and historical data to surface data gaps and place new sample points, right in the browser. (JavaScript, Leaflet.js, GeoJSON, HTML)
- XRF Data App. A browser app that reconciles handheld-XRF field readings against a master tracker — linking thousands of readings to samples for browsing, QC, and export. (JavaScript, Python, openpyxl, CSV, HTML)
- Soil Contamination Visualizer. A self-contained figure tool that loads GeoJSON soil data and renders contamination maps and figures, filtered live by analyte, sampling round, and threshold. (JavaScript, GeoJSON, HTML)
- Boring Data Explorer. A geospatial explorer for subsurface boring records — a clustered map with filtering, side-by-side comparison, saved views, and export, built as an installable PWA. (JavaScript, GeoJSON, Leaflet, PWA)
- Cyclic Report QC Tool. A Python utility that diffs a new regulatory report against the prior cycle paragraph-by-paragraph and color-codes changes, so stale carryover gets caught before submittal. (Python, Document diffing, QA/QC)
- This Portfolio. Designed and built this site end to end: a static site with a hand-written WebGL terrain of California, and a browser-based Studio I use to publish from the field. (Astro, TypeScript, WebGL2, React (Studio), Cloudflare)
